Background:
As a nationwide non-violent resistance movement, the March 1st Movement mobilized religious groups in Korea to call for independence from Japanese colonial rule. It also fostered interreligious dialogue towards harmony and unity, transcending differences in religion and doctrine. The March 1st Movement provides the spiritual foundation for harmony and unity in the Korean Peninsula as well as for world peace. Its values help us to reassess the role of religious leaders and ways to overcome global issues such as the escalating economic recession and tensions, providing a cornerstone for the future of Korea.
