The world's religious communities are committed to advancing peace with justice - a commitment that coincides with many areas of the United Nations (UN) agenda. Together with WCRP, IPCR organized a one-day conference entitled 'Advancing cooperation between the UN and world's religions' on December 16, 2008.

The conference brought together 120 religious leaders, UN officials and representatives from Permanent Missions, and set out to achieve the following three objectives:
- To advance the value of multi-religious cooperation in pursuing peace, development and human rights.
- To note existing cooperation and dialogue between the world's religious communities and the UN.
- To explore new ways and means to advance cooperation between the world's religious communities and the UN, in particular multi-religious approaches.
